Thane Introduces Tire Killers to Curb Wrong-Way Driving - Urban Acres

Oct 17, 2024

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has taken a proactive approach to address the persistent problem of traffic congestion and enhance road safety within the city. One of the innovative measures implemented is the installation of ‘tire killers’ on an experimental basis to deter drivers from traveling in the wrong direction on roads. These tire killers, strategically placed at identified locations by the traffic police, are designed to deflate the tires of vehicles that violate traffic rules.

Before their installation, detailed information and warning signs will be placed in advance to alert drivers. Adequate lighting and CCTV surveillance will also be ensured to minimize the risk of accidents. The TMC has also been working tirelessly to alleviate traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road, a major arterial road in Thane. In recent weeks, significant progress has been made in improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. The municipal commissioner, Saurabh Rao, has emphasized the ongoing review and implementation of measures to address the traffic challenges on this road.

A series of meetings have been held to discuss and implement strategies to mitigate traffic congestion on Ghodbunder Road and other internal roads. The action plan developed during these meetings has led to coordinated efforts among various departments and agencies to improve traffic management. In addition to traffic management measures, the TMC has also focused on improving road infrastructure. The road from the Kapurbawdi-Majiwada flyover towards Mumbai from the U-turn to Viviana Mall is scheduled for resurfacing to accommodate heavy vehicles. The Gaymukh Ghat, which is frequently damaged during monsoons due to heavy traffic, is also being considered for concreting.

To further enhance road safety, the TMC has plans to level all roads, fill potholes, and remove unauthorized parking lots. The municipal authority will also take action to clear service roads of hawkers and rectify overhead wire issues. The Thane Municipal Corporation’s comprehensive approach to addressing traffic congestion and improving road safety is a commendable step towards creating a more efficient and livable city. By implementing innovative measures and investing in infrastructure improvements, the TMC is demonstrating its commitment to the well-being of its residents and the smooth functioning of the city’s transportation system.
