Thomas E. Gates, 67, of Boise, ID, passed away on Thursday March, 21st 2024 at his home. Born in Canastota, N.Y., he was the son of the late Paul H. Gates, Jr. and Elva Lennie Dunham Gates.Tom was a 1975 graduate of Canastota Jr./Sr. High. He joined the Air Force in 1977, serving in several war zones throughout his career. Tom retired in 1995 as Assistant Fire Chief with a rank of TSGT. He was a certified EMT and Paramedic. After retirement from the Air Force, Tom worked for the State of Idaho Prison System as a corrections officer on the emergency response team. He later transitioned to the medical department as a prison medic. During his retirement, Tom earned a Bachelor of Psychology degree, and an Associate in Bible Studies degree.Surviving Tom are his two sons, Benjamin residing in Maine and Joshua residing in Florida; there are 5 grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Suzanne Gates-Giannaccini of MN and husband Niles; brother-in-law Bruce Brown of Frederick, MD; an uncle and aunt from Auburn, N.Y. and several nieces and nephews, and a great-niece. Tom is preceded in death by his parents; brother Paul E. Gates; and his sister Patricia E. Brown.Tom will be buried at Resthaven Cemetery in Frederick, MD.A small memorial service will be held at the Resthaven Funeral Home at 1:00 on Saturday April 27th.
